CSCC Sports Information
Chattanooga State finished what they started on Monday afternoon at
Cougar Field by taking the third game of the weekend three-game
series over Cleveland State and completing the Region VII
Conference sweep as the Tigers pounded the Cougars into submission
by a final score of 16-9.
After tossing a pair of shutout wins at the Cougars on Sunday
afternoon, the Tigers used a 14 hit attack and 13 Cougar walks to
finish the series and get the win.
An RBI single in the top of the first by Casey Mannion and a solo
homer from Jared Wilson in the second inning put the Tigers on top.
The Cougars got those two runs back in the bottom of the second as
Dalton Rogers swatted a two-run dinger to knot the game.
Chattanooga State put a four spot on the board in the third frame,
all with two outs, and two more in the fifth. Three singles and
three walks did the damage in the third as Walden knocked in a pair
and added two more in the fifth with a two-run homer and Wilson
added another RBI to push the lead to 8-2.
The Cougars sliced the lead to a single run at 8-7, with a five-run
outburst of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Rogers and J.D.
Cowart singled in a run each while three more crossed on a passed
ball, a groundout and an error.
The Tigers would have none of that, as they got those five runs
right back in their next turn at the dish on four hits and five
walks, again doing all the damage with two outs. Following a single
and a pair of free passes, Marquis Webb singled in a pair of runs,
Mannion plated two more with a single and the fifth run crossed the
easy way as Walden drew a walk with the bases full of Tigers,
pushing the lead to 13-7.
The Cougars tacked on two runs in their half of the seventh as
Cowart and DeAndre Allen had an RBI each, but three more Tiger runs
in the eighth on four more walks and a two-run single by Aaron
Wright finished the win and the sweep for the visitors.
Colton Kinnamon picked up the win for the Tigers (14-4, 3-0) while
Mark Harris and Carson Bryant pitched in relief. Jeb Scoggins
suffered the loss for the Cougars (9-7, 0-3) while Ethan Davis,
Bobby Towne, Matt Allen, Andre Wilson, Thomas Huddleston and Derek
Chandler all pitched in relief.
The Cougars will host Southwest Tennessee for a three-game
Conference series next weekend.
