COUGARS CONCLUDE FALL BASEBALL WITH COLUMBIA VS. NAVY IN THE ANNUAL WILD WING WORLD SERIES
Columbia tops Navy 5 - 4 to claim 4-2 series win.
The Cleveland State baseball team concluded their Wild Wing Fall World Series with the Columbia team claiming a 5-4 win in game six and a 4-2 series win over the Navy team. It was a competitive series that saw an extra inning game, and all games decided by one or two runs.
In game six the Columbia team rode the arm of sophomore Tyler Kilgore to a 5-4 win holding off a furious four run rally by the Navy team in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kilgore pitched six innings holding the Navy team to no runs on one hit while striking out four. Sophomore Josh Morgan pitched out of a four run seventh inning by getting a fly ball to centerfield with the tying run on second base.
Cougar coach Mike Policastro commented "that the series was evenly played by both teams. All of the games were close and could have gone either way. I thought that our pitching competed well throughout the series with many freshman pitchers having quality outings. Sophomore Thomas Huddleston won two games for the Columbia team during the series. Our hitters continued to make progress during the fall with hitters from both teams having a lot of quality at bats. I feel like we have made progress throughout the fall. Our club needs to continue to work hard during the off-season to get better in all phases in preparation for our spring season."
The Cougars open up their spring season on February 5th at Roane State for a non conference game.
