COUGARS COMPLETE SERIES SWEEP OVER ROANE, 6-2
The Cougars rode the solid pitching of Jeb Scoggins and timely hitting to finish a weekend series sweep of Roane State by a 6-2 final. Cleveland State took the lead in the first inning and never looked back as they evened their conference record at 6-6.
Scoggins pitched four perfect innings before the Raiders put runners on second and third with no outs. He got out of the jam with a strikeout, a comebacker to the mound, and a running catch by leftfielder Cody Hiefnar. Roane State would plate two runs in the eighth thanks to an error and a double, but Scoggins escaped without further damage.
Scoggins would go eight innings, allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out three, walking one, and one hit batter. Bobby Towne would pitch a perfect ninth inning to close out the victory.
The Cougars scored two runs in the first inning as Keith Buckhault singled and Evan Speucher double to lead off the inning. Chase Edwards would score Buckhault with first run with a sacrifice fly. Speicher would then score on a Jared Davis groundout. Cleveland State would add two more in the third when Davis would double before Dalton Rogers would line a shot over the right field fence.
They would score single runs in the sixth and eighth inning on RBI hits from Buckhault and DeAndre Allen. Edwards would join Buckhault, Rogers, and Allen as each would rap out two hits.
