WALTERS SWEEPS COUGARS 8-4, 10-0
The Cougars were swept away in their three game series with Walters State as the Senators took both ends of Saturday's doubleheader. Cleveland State held a brief lead in the first game before the hosts scored six runs in their last two at bats to win 8-4. The Senators then scored 6 unearned runs in the second inning to blow the game open and win 10-0 in five innings.
Cleveland State trailed 2-0 before they put up three runs in the top of the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, DeAndre Allen would scoot home with the first run on a Dalton Rogers' sacrifice fly. Then Evan Speicher and Chase Edwards would score on a Michael Hargrove single to right field. The lead was shortlived as the Senators put up two runs in the bottom of the inning and then four more in the sixth.
Allen, Speicher, and Hargrove would each bang out two hits in the game. Hargrove finished with two RBIs and Speicher would score twice in the game. Jeb Scoggins took the loss. He pitched five innings, giving up 6 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits and two walks. He struck out one batter.
In the second game, Walters scored their six runs after two outs had been recorded in the inning. An infield error would key the outburst. the hosts then would put up four runs in the fifth with one out to finish the contest.
The Cougars managed only three hits in the game with Speicher, Colby Harmon, and Trey Potts each with a hit. Thomas Huddleston was the pitcher of record in the game. He pitched into the fifth inning, surrendering 8 runs (2 earned) on 9 hits. He would stike out two batters.
