COUGARS COMPLETE SWEEP OVER GENERALS 7-3
The Cougars completed an important sweep of the Jackson State Generals to keep their post season hopes alive by winning 7-3 Sunday afternoon. Cleveland State found themselves in a 2-0 deficit, but scored their seven runs in the sixth and seventh to notch the victory.
After surrendering the lead in the top of the sixth, the Cougars struck quickly to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. After Zach Janes was hit by a pitch to start the inning, DeAndre Allen would follow a batter later with a line drive over the left field fence to even the score. Cleveland State wasn't done though. Evan Speicher followed with a single and came home two batters later on a single by Keith Buckhault to take the lead.
In the seventh inning, Michael Hargrove would take a 3-2 pitch deep over the right field fence to up the advantage to 4-2. Cody Hiefnar and Janes would then lace back to back singles. Hiefnar would score on an infield error and Janes would score later on a single by Allen. Allen would then score the final run on a Chase Edwards infield single.
Jeb Scoggins would go seven strong innings to claim the win. He would give up only two runs on three hits and four walks. He struck out eight batters. Hadyn Bailey pitched the final two innings in relief. He gave up a run on two hits.
Allen finished the game with two hits that drove in three runs. Buckhault would also have two hits for the Cougars.
