On Thursday, February 7th, Buckhorn High School (AL) shortstop, Jennifer Kern signed papers to become a Lady Cougar for the 2013-2014 seasons. Coach Willingham states, "We are thrilled to have Jennifer a part of our program. We feel that she is the type of player needed to help with our program's success."
The Kern family is no stranger to the softball diamond. Jennifer comes from a family of softball players including her older sister, Stephanie, who has experienced the Junior College level by playing at Snead State and a younger sister who is a freshman at Buckhorn. After visiting a few other campuses, Jennifer felt that CSCC was the right place for her because of the team atmosphere and beautiful campus.
Buckhorn Head Coach Al Rauls spoke very highly of his senior shortstop saying, "Jennifer is a great young lady, hard worker and cares about her teammates. I hate to let her go and I would be proud to call her daughter."
"Jennifer impressed us from the day she stepped on campus. At her workout, she had great footwork and had a solid bat. Needless to say, we knew we had to have her," quoted Coach Willingham.
Jennifer batted .333 for the Lady Bucs and intends to major in Forensic Science once at Cleveland State.
