Golf Releases 2020 Spring Schedule
Men's Golf released their 2020 slate of tournaments on Monday. The Cougars will compete in four regular season tournaments before heading to the District J Championships for a chance to earn their way to Nationals.
Head Coach Miles Moseley was particularly excited about the opportunity to participate in two tournaments hosted by NJCAA schools.
"We generally have not played in junior college tournaments," said Moseley. "These will have three or four schools in the top 10 and that will help us to see where we are compared to schools that are competitive on a national level." These two tournaments will both take place in Alabama, with the Coastal Alabama Invitational taking place on Feb. 17-18 and the Glenlake Invitational, which is hosted by Central Alabama, taking place on Mar. 16-17.
Cleveland State will look forward to competing in the District J Championships on Apr. 13-15. Last year in the postseason event, they placed fifth overall and saw 2020 returning sophomore Colbe Cagle finish sixth place overall and qualify for last year's NJCAA Division II National Championship. Moseley was not sure how his team will place this season, but was hopeful for his roster.
"We've been putting some systems in place and guys are learning them pretty well," Moseley said. "[We feel] like we're just scratching the surface, so I think that we'll see a lot of improvement top to bottom. I expect a really good spring season."
The Cougars will help to continue to see stellar play from Wes Spillers, who wowed in the fall season. Spillers earned two All-Tournament Team honors and set multiple school records in his debut. Both he and Cleveland State played well to close the season, sharing a piece of the Eagle Invitational trophy, and will hope to build on that momentum.
