CLEVELAND STATE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL VS. GEORGIA NW (1-8-13)

The Cleveland State ladies basketball team picked right up where they left off on Tuesday night at L. Quentin Lane Gymnasium, in their first game of 2013, as they showed no signs of Christmas break rust. The Lady Cougars led from beginning to end and notched their fifth win in a row convincingly over the Georgia Northwestern Lady Bobcats by a lopsided final of 84-52 .

Jara Gasper nailed a three-pointer and followed that with a steal and layup to put Cleveland State on top 5-0 and they never looked back, opening the contest with a 14-2 run. Hannah Brown added a trey of her own and a layup, Carly Fetzer chipped in with a pair of tough buckets in the paint, as did Diamond Freeman and Jasmine Davis to help the Lady Cougar lead grow rapidly.

Odessa Person was the lone bright spot for the Lady Bobcats in the first half as she converted a pair of three-point plays and Emily Cole and Sierra Smith hit a long range shot each, but a pair of buckets from Chelsea Jones and a layup from Gasper at the buzzer gave the home team a 45-22 advantage at the break.

Cleveland State shot a solid 45 percent in the first half while clamping down on the defensive end of the floor, holding the Lady Bobcats to only 13 percent while snatching 11 steals and causing 12 turnovers.

Same song, second verse was the theme in the second stanza as the Lady Cougars ran away and hid. Brown let fly with two more shots from downtown while Me'Lisa Martinez, Tre'Ketta Bonds and Shadave Taylor all put marks in the scoring column to help Cleveland State cruise to the win.

Anthony led the Lady Cougars (10-5) 19 points, seven assists, five boards and four steals, Brown and Jones added 13 points apiece, Martinez added eight points and eight rebounds and Fetzer had eight points as well. Person paced the Lady Bobcats with 12 points and 21 rebounds while Alissa Nicholson finished with 14 points.
