COUGARS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER & SERIES FROM MOTLOW
The Cougars took advantage of a sunny Saturday afternoon to complete a weekend series sweep of Motlow by sweeping a doubleheader by 3-1 and 5-1 finals. Solid pitching and the hot bat of Michael Hargrove were key in the afternoon sweep.
In the first game, the Bucks struck in the top of the fourth inning on a solo shot to left field. Their lead was shortlived as Hargrove would follow a walk to Dalton Rogers with a two-run blast over the right field fence. They would add another insurance run in the fifth when DeAndre Allen would score when Jared Davis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Jeb Scoggins was solid on the mound for the Cougars as he pitched seven strong innings, surrendering only the single run on five hits. He struck out five and walked only one batter. Hargrove would rap out two singles to finish the game with three hits. Allen would finish the game with two singles.
Cleveland State jumped out front for good in the first inning as Evan Speicher scored on a Rogers' sacrifice fly. They would add three more in the third inning as Rogers, Cody Hiefnar, and Keith Buckhault each drove in a run. Hiefnar would score the final run in the fifth on a Hargrove double.
Thomas Huddleston secured the pitching victory with a five-hitter. He surrendered one earned run as he struck out three and walked two batters. Hargrove and Chase Edwards each had two hits in the game with Rogers driving in two runs.
