The Cougars came back to win game one 3-2, then dominated the Lions JV squad 14-0 in a run-rule shortened game.
"In today's wins over Bryan we had outstanding pitching in both games," Cleveland State coach Mike Policastro said.
"Ryan Lloyd kept us in the game with six strong innings and allowing only two runs. Greg Tye picked up the save. In game two, Grant Crosby was in command all game, as he held Bryan hitless until two outs in the fifth."
The Cougars start out their conference series with Walters State on Friday, where the teams will play at 2 p.m. On Saturday, the teams will play in a doubleheader at noon and 2 p.m.
Cleveland State found themselves down 2-1 going into the bottom of the sixth. Things changed as Chase Fullington led off with a double and Trey Vanderpool followed with a single. Trent Elliott then had an RBI with a ground out moving Vanderpool to third. He scored the winning run on John Anderson's two-out single.
Doubles were hit by Sean McDermott, Trent Elliot, Fullington and Vanderpool.
Lloyd (4-1) threw for six innings, striking out 11. Tye closed the game out for his third save of the season, striking out two.
In game two, Crosby (4-2) gave up only one hit and struck out seven Lions, while his teammates racked up 11 hits for 14 runs
The Cougars started off slow, picking up one run in the first and two in the third. Things ramped up in the third inning, where nine runs were scored.
Their 12-0 lead became 14-0 in the fifth inning.
Sean Coakley was 2-for-2 at the plate, with both of his hits being homeruns. He had three RBIs. Jordan Ransom also went 2-for-2, with a triple and an RBI. Billy Brand was 1-for-2 at the plate, with his hit being a double. Brand had two RBIs.
Joey Roberson had three RBIs and Brandon Mason had two. John Sharpe, Hooper Mills also had an RBI each in the game.
