The Cougar softball team got off to a bumpy ride to start the 2026 campaign as they hosted Calhoun CC on Tuesday. Their oppenents swpt the doubleheader by scores of 17-6 and 11-3.
In the first game, with the score 7-5 in the sixth inning, Calhoun exploded for ten runs in the frame to secure the victory.
The Cougars managed nine hits in the game led by Gisele Tankersley and Destini Jensen, each with two hits. Tankersley had a single and a double while Jensen had a single and a two run home run in the game. Tankersley was tagged with the loss as she went five innings.
In the second game, Calhoun scored five runs in the first two innings, and the Cougars could never mount a challenge.
The team managed only six hits in the game with no one getting multiple hits. Ella Blansit and Jensen each had solo home runs, and Tankersley would stroke another double in the game. Jensen would also add a sacrifice fly to drive in the third run. Sierra Howard would take the loss in the circle, going the first tow innings.
The team will travel next Tuesday to play Georgia Highlands in a doubleheader starting at 1pm EST.
