Motlow State CC
Cougar softball swept a doubleheader from Motlow State on Friday afternoon. They took the first game 5-4 before securing the sweep with a 3-1 win in the second game. The team's record now stands at 9-23 overall with a 6-12 conference record.
The squad took advantage of their five hits in the game to score all their runs. The Cougars scored four runs in the bottom of the second as Lilly Griffits laced a two run single, and Heidi Johnson folowed with a two run triple. They added a run scoring double by Sloane Watson for an insurance run.
Johnson would add a single for two hits in the contest while Destini Jensen had the other hit in the game. Griffits, along with Gisele Tankersley, Ella Blansit, Milan Pemberton, and Jensen each scored a run. Jensen also had a stolen base in the game.
Sierra Howard earned the win in the circle as she went the first four and a third innings, surrendering two earned run on just two hits. She had two strikeouts but nine walks in the game. Reagan Frakes threw the final two innings, giving up two unearned runs o0n two hits with one walk and one strikeout.
The second game saw a scoreless affair until the Cougars plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jayla Young would rip a two run double to open the scoring while Blansit would lace a double to score Young for the third run. Tankersley, Johnson, Griffits, and Emily Holcomb had a hit in the game. Tankersley and Johnson would each score on Young's double.
Tankersley would get the win in relief. She went five innings, allowing one earned run on five hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Savannah Bennett got the start, and allowed no runs on no hots with two walks in two innings of work.
