SOFTBALL DROPS FOUR GAMES OVER WEEKEND
The Cougar softball team made the trip to west Tennessee for doubleheader matchups against Dyersburg and Southwest Tennessee. They dropped their doubleheader to Dyersburg by identical 10-2 scores on Friday. They lost both games to Southwest Tennessee by 7-6 and 7-2 scores.
The ladies had eight hits in the first game Fridaay with Gisele Tankersley and Mylee Howard each banging out two hits. Tankersley and Jayla Young would each score a run, and Heidi Johnson would have an RBI single. Savannah Bennett would take the loss as she gave up nine hits, and surrendered all ten runs with only three being earned runs. She had three walks and one strikeout.
In the second game, the Cougars managed only three hits with Howard, Young, and Milan Pemberton each with one hit. Howard and Pemberton each had an RBI. Sierra Howard took the loss in the circe, going the first 3 1/3 innings. She surrendered seven hits, six runs (five earned), with six walks.
On Saturday, the team saw the hosts score five runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game. The team had seven hits with Tankersley and Young each with two hits. Tankersley scored three runs while Young scored twice in the contest. Young and Lily Griffits each had two RBIs. Tankersley and Johnson each had adouble while Young and Griffits each had a home run. Tankersley took the loss as she surrendered four runs (two earned) on five hits. She had four strikeouts with no walks.
In the second game, Southwest scored four runs in the first on the way to the win. The squad had eight hits with Howard leading with three hits. Laila Perry also had two hits in the game. Howard and Destini Jensen each had an RBI while Johnson and Ella Blansit each scord a run. Bennett took the loss as she went the first inning, surrendering four runs (two earned) on three hits with one walk.
