COUGAR BASEBALL QUARTET HEADED TO WEST GEORGIA
A quartet of Cougar baseball sophomores have chosen to continue to be teammates as they will head to Carrolton (GA) next season to play for the Wolves of the University of West Geogia. Infielders Dalton Rogers and Keith Buckhault as well as pitcher Josh Morgan and pitcher/outfielder Jake Wright all signed letters of intent with UWG who compete in the Gulf South Conference at the NCAA Dvision II level.
Rogers, a first baseman from Soddy-Daisy, played in 48 games this past season for the Cougars. He hit .318 for the year with 17 doubles, one triple, and four home runs while driving in 33 runs. For his two years, he hit. 296 in 81 games. He had 7 career home runs with 48 RBIs.
Buckhault, a third baseman from Covington (GA), came on late after suffering an injury early this past season to hit .301 in 29 games. He had six doubles and one home run with 20 RBIs. As a two year starter, he appeared in 71 games with a .304 batting average. As a freshman he had nine doubles, a triple, a home run, and 27 RBIs.
Morgan, a right handed pitcher from Lafayette (GA), appeared in 12 games this past season as a starter. He had a 6-4 record with 57 1/3 innings pitched. He had 3.45 ERA allowing only 22 earned runs this season. He gave up 40 hits and struck out 43 opponents with two complete games to his credit.
Wright, a lefthanded pitcher/outfielder from Covington (GA), saw action in 41 games this season (12 as a pitcher). He started 10 games on the mound with a hard luck 2-5 record. He had an ERA of 3.94 with 3 complete games and 52 strikeouts in 61 2/3 innings pitched. As an outfielder, he had a .281 average with 6 doubles, 2 home runs, and 12 RBIs.
