Cougar Baseball Takes Two from Edison
Cleveland State Cougars (9-4) played host to Edison Community College Chargers winning both games of the doubleheader 10-0 and 8-3 on a chilly rainy afternoon. The Cougars used 10 hits in game one and seven timely hits in game two to score all the runs they would need. In game one, pitchers Bryce Jenkins and Owen Clark would combine on a one-hitter as starter Jenkins tossed four of the six innings while striking out eight giving him his second win of the season. Jaylen Jones and Jacob Robinson hit homeruns and drove in three runs each. Robinson had three hits while Jones and Brandon LeJuene had two hits each. Jenkins, Andre Tarver and Rhett Hammontree each had one. Winning 10-0, the Cougars shined in all aspects of the game, playing error free ball and stealing nine bases, while drawing six walks. Yosuany Herrera would complete the scoring in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly. In game two, Cleveland State answered Edison's two spot in the second with five runs taking a 5-2 lead and never looked back. Doubles by Nick Iezzi and Colby Taylor drove in three runs while a sacrifice bunt by Tate Daniels and an Edison error plated the final two runs of the inning. In the fifth inning the Cougars tacked on the final three runs of the game on a run-scoring double by AJ Swader and a two-run homer by Hunter Gray. In the 8-3-win, Cleveland State used two pitchers, Kaleb Orr who went an inning and two thirds followed by Daniel Crabtree, winning his third game of the season, throwing five innings and a third. Parker Evans and Cameron Campbell each contributed one hit to round out the seven-hit attack. The Cougars also walked six times led by Bryson Lofton who had three of the six.
