CLEVELAND – The Cougars were dealt a tough blow by Roane State Wednesday night, in the form of a 61-56 loss at their final home game of the season.
The game may have been close on the scoreboard, but Cleveland State head coach Lee Cigliano felt that his team was outplayed for most of the night.
"We never could get over the proverbial hump in terms of looking at the game itself. We just weren't consistent enough tonight on the defensive or offensive end," Cigliano explained.
Through the first 20 minutes, Cleveland State (14-7, 8-7) and Roane State were neck-and-neck, with the Raiders taking a 33-32 lead at halftime.
The Cougars were outscored 28-24 in the second half.
"Our offensive execution and rhythm were off and we weren't able to make that extra pass or swing the ball an extra time," Cigliano said. "We have to share in the responsibility and get better from this as we go into these last few weeks – We've still got a lot of basketball to play."
Cleveland State was without Alfonzo Peoples and Elijah McCoin, who were sidelined with injuries for Wednesday's game.
Tevin Olison led the team with 21 points and had two steals. Cam Copeland had 13 points and two steals, while Jordan Olison had 10. Victory Curry led the team in rebounds with 10.
Cleveland State travels to Walters State on Saturday.
