SOPHOMORE HURLERS SIGN WITH FOUR-YEAR INSTITUTIONS
The Cougar baseball team recently had three sophomore pitchers make commitments to continue their collegiate careers at four-year universities. Michael Dike, Raunel Perez, and Kegan Frederick (pictured left to right) will all be moving on after this upcoming season.
Dike, a transfer from ABAC (GA), will remain a Cougar as he will continue his career at Columbus State University in Columbus (GA). As a freshman last year at ABAC, he had a 0-2 record in 29.2 innings pitched. He made 17 appearances, starting two games. He had 27 strikeouts, surrendered 26 earned runs and 37 hits.
Perez has decided to continue his studies at Carson Newman University in Jefferson City (TN). A returning sophomore from Red Bank High School, Perez saw action in 16 games last year, starting 3 games. He had a 3-0 record with 25.1 innings pitched. He had 20 stikeouts while surrendering 20 hits and 19 earned runs.
Frederick is making the jump to NCAA Division I as he will be a Catamount at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee (NC). A redshirt sophomore from Sequatchie County High School, he had a 3-4 record as a freshman with 3 saves. He made 17 appearances with 5 starts in 38.2 innings pitched. He had 31 strikeouts, and surrendered 38 hits and 24 earned runs.
"Congratulations to Michael, Raunel, and Kegan on signing early to four-year schools. All three are outstanding pitchers and young men, who will be a big part of our pitching staff for the upcoming season," remarked Head Coach Mike Policastro. The Cougars will start their spring season February 3 on the road against Roane State in nonconference play.
