COUGAR WOMEN ADVANCE WITH WIN OVER DYERSBURG
The woimen's basketball team defeated Dyersburg 58-53 Sunday to advance to the semi finals of the TCCAA/NJCAA Region Vii Tournament. The win increased their overall record to 17-13.
The first quarter saw both teams take leads before Dyersburg would hit free throws to be up 18-17 at the end of the first ten minutes. In the second quarter, Dyersburg would open and maintain a four point lead for most of the quarter, but the ladies would cut it to two 33-31, at the break. The Cougars would take the lead with three minutes to go in the third quarter, and hold a one point advantage at the end of the quarter. They would outscore their opponents 13-9 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Kennedy Baker and Macie Collins led the squad with each scoring 13 poinjts. Mar'Nazha Houston and Kayla Lopez both would add eight while Erin Dixon finished the night with seven points.
Dixon would lead the team with 13 rebounds as the Cougars outrebounded their opponents 44-34. Fifteen of thpose 44 rebounds came on the offensive end. Sloan Pender had sewven rebounds while Collins and Houston each finished with five in the contest.
Lopez would lead the team with two assists, and Collins would lead with six steals. Baker would have a solo block in the game.
