COUGARS FALL IN SEMIS OF WOMEN'S TOURNEY
The women's basketball team came up on the short end of an exciting 77-73 double overtime game against Columbis State Monday evening in the semis of the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament.. With the loss, it eneded the ladies season with an 17-14 overall record.
The ladies were prime for the upset as they 12-7 after the first quarter, and 32-13 at the halftime break. Columbia made their comeback in the third quarter as they cut the deficitr to 3 at 43-40 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw a back and forth affait with both teams having opportunities to end the game at the end of the regulation. The first overtime was more of the same as opportunities were missed in the last seconds. Cleveland would fall behind, but the game was in question until two free throwqs by Columbia sealed the win.
Macie Collins led the team with 22 points. Mar'Nazha Houston and Kennedsy Baket both reached double figures with 14 points each. Ziara Thompson would finish the game with nine points and Sloan Pender had eight in the game.
Houston led the team with 17 rebounds followed by Pender with eight and Collins w2ith seven boards. Pender and Kayla Lopez each finished with six assists. Baker had four steals with Pender and Lopez finishing with three in the contest. Houston had two blocks in the game.
