COUGARS OPEN NEW YEAR WITH WIN OVER SOUTHERN CRESCENT
The men's basketball team opened the second half of their season with an 89-78 win over Southern Crescent on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the men saw their overall record improve to 5-7 on the year.
The Cougars held a slim four point lead at the half, and found themselvews down late in the second half. Trailing 67-66 with just under nine minutes remaining, Cleveland would finish the game on a 23-11 run to pull out the hard fought triumph.
Brandon Lanier led the team with 26 points on 11 of 13 shooting from the field. Kedrick Franklin led team with ten points and would finish the contest with 14 points. He and Lanier were the only Cougars to reach double figures.
Lanier would lead the team with 15 rebounds for a solid double-double performance. Zechariah Canidate would pull down eight rebounds to go with his eight points. Jacob Turner had six rebounds to go with nine points while Franklin had five revounds in the win.
Seneca Robinson came off the bench and had five assists to lead the team while also scoring nine points. A.J. Horton had four assists while Ryan Neal and Canidate each had three in the game. Egypt Daniel would lead the squad with two steals.
The squad returns to conference action this Wednesday as they host Roane State with a start time of 7:30pm EST.
