COUGARS DEFEAT PELLISSIPPI ON 76-75 AT THE BUZZER
The Cougar men's basketball team survived a late game collapse as they defeated Pellissippi State 76-75 on a three-pointer at the buzzer by Xavier Washington. The win improves the Cougars' overall record to 12-13 with an 8-11 conference record.
The Cougars held a 67-57 advantage with just under five minutes to play before the Panthers made a final push. Pellisippi would take a 74-70 lead with 14 seconds to play. Washington would draw them within one with a three-pointers with seven seconds left. The Panther would make one free throw with 4.4 seconds left. Washington would recieve the inbounds pass an dribble to the top of the key. His shot found nothing but the bottom of the net for win.
Washington was only one of two player to reach double figures as he led the team with 19 points. Brandon Lanier would add 14 points in the contest. Kedrick Franklin, Carson Boyle, and Pharez Nicholas each would contribute eight in the contest.
Lanier would lead the team with nine rebounds followed by Franklin with four boards. Seneca Robinson, Jacob Turner, Ramireon, and Lanier eaach had tow assists in the game. Lanier and Nicholas each had three steals in the game, and Lanier added two blocks.
The Cougars will play their final regular season game on Monday, March 2 against Jackson State. This is a makeup game from the inclement weather in late January. Game time is set for 4pm EST.
