COUGARS DEFEAT CHATT STATE IN OT THRILLER
Forty minutes wasn't enough time to settle the outcome of Thursday night's contest against the Chatt State Tigers. In the extra five minutes in overtime, the Cougars outscored their opponents 12-8 to pull out an important 85-81 win. The iwn improved the squad's record to 8-9 overall and 4-7 in conference play.
Ramireon Taylor was the key as he scored ten of his 14 points in the second half which included six in overtime. A.J. Horton led the team with 16 points followed by Taylor with his 14. The Cougars had four other scorers reach double figures in the contest. Xavier Washington had 11 points in the contest whil Brandon Lanier, Jacob Turner, and Pharez Nicholas each tallied ten points on the night.
Horton led the team with five rebounds, and Lanier, Turner, & Zechariah Canidate each pulled down four boards. Lanier, Canidate, and Seneca Robinson each had two assists to lead the team. Horton was the team leader with two steals.
There were six lead changes in the game with 11 ties. The Cougars connected on 46.8% (29 of 62) of their shots in the game and made 90.5% (19 of 21) of their free throws.
The team was scheduled to trave to Dyersburg this weekend, but inclement weather forced a postponement of that contest until Monday, February 9. They are scheudled to travel to Walters State on Wednesday, February 4, and their next home contest will be Saturday, February 7.
