CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Cleveland State Community College split a hard-fought doubleheader Tuesday at Georgia Highlands College, earning a 13–5 win in the opener before dropping a dramatic 18–17 decision in game two.
The Cougars powered past the Chargers in the first game behind a big day from Nolan Sergeant, who went 3-for-3 with five RBI and two home runs. Evan Leonard and Jordan Smith also homered, while Evan Cope picked up the win with 3.1 scoreless innings in relief.
Game two turned into a back-and-forth slugfest, with Cleveland State scoring 17 runs on 17 hits and launching five home runs, but Georgia Highlands used a big third inning and late runs to hold on for the one-run victory.
Head Coach Aaron Bryant praised his team's effort throughout the day.
"I'm extremely proud of how hard our guys fought and competed all day long," Bryant said. "They never quit, kept battling, and showed a lot of toughness in both games."
Cleveland State finished the day with 30 runs and 30 hits, showcasing offensive depth and resilience as the Cougars move forward in the season.
