BASEBALL'S SERGEANT EARNS CONFERENCE, NATIONAL ACCOLADES
Cleveland State Community College sophomore outfielder Nolan Sergeant has been named the NJCAA Baseball National Player of the Week, adding national recognition to an outstanding start to the 2026 season. Sergeant was also selected as the TCCAA Baseball Player of the Week, completing a sweep of conference and national honors.
Sergeant's award-winning stretch was highlighted by elite production at the plate, as he posted a .474 batting average with 18 hits through the first three weeks of the season while consistently delivering extra-base hits and run production for the Cougars.
The Chattanooga native delivered one of the most impressive performances of the early season on January 29, when he hit for the cycle against Gordon State College, finishing 5-for-5 with two home runs, a double, a triple, five runs scored, and five RBIs in a 15–9 Cleveland State victory.
Sergeant continued his hot streak during Cleveland State's series sweep of Vincennes University, going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs in the series finale to help power the Cougars' offense.
Head Coach Aaron Bryant praised both Sergeant's performance and approach at the plate. "Nolan has been locked in from the start. He's competing every at-bat, using the whole field, and impacting the game in multiple ways. When you combine that kind of preparation with confidence, special things can happen," Bryant said.
The NJCAA National Player of the Week honor places Sergeant among the top performers in junior college baseball nationwide and underscores Cleveland State's strong early-season momentum.
