Gordon State College used steady early scoring and a decisive six-run third inning to pull away from Cleveland State Community College, earning a 16–6 win Tuesday at Cougar Field. Gordon State opened the scoring with a run in the second inning before breaking the game open in the third and adding runs in five different innings.
Cleveland State responded with two runs in the fourth, highlighted by a solo home run from Kwade Carver, and added three more in the sixth behind RBIs from Jordan Smith and Nate Severance. Carver led the Cougars offensively, going 3-for-4 with a home run, while Hank Adams added two hits.
Head Coach Aaron Bryant emphasized his team's effort despite the result. "Our guys kept competing and didn't back down," Bryant said. "We made some mistakes that extended innings, and that hurt us, but there were good at-bats and moments we can build on moving forward."
