Cleveland State Community College baseball turned in a complete performance Saturday at Cougar Field, sweeping Vincennes University in a doubleheader behind disciplined offense and strong pitching.
The Cougars jumped out early in Game 1, scoring five runs in the opening inning and cruising to an 8–1 victory. Jaxon Humble led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs, while Jordan Smith added two RBIs. Cleveland State showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks.
On the mound, Braden Suggs was dominant, striking out 11 over six innings while allowing just one run. Anthony Biondo finished the game with a scoreless inning of relief.
Cleveland State carried that momentum into Game 2, exploding for a 16–1 win in five innings. The Cougars scored in every frame, highlighted by a seven-run fourth inning. Nolan Sergeant drove in five runs, Riley Mahan launched a three-run home run, and the Cougars took advantage of 11 walks while swiping eight bases.
Parker Coe earned the win in the nightcap, allowing just one hit and one unearned run while striking out nine.
Head Coach Aaron Bryant said the sweep reflected the team's approach throughout the day.
"I was proud of how our guys stayed disciplined and played connected baseball," Bryant said. "We controlled the strike zone offensively, and our pitching staff did a great job attacking hitters. That's the standard we're working toward every day."
The sweep moves Cleveland State to 5–3 on the season.
