COUGARS SWEEP SERIES WITH VINCENNES WITH 12-1 WIN
Cleveland State Community College baseball wrapped up the weekend in strong fashion Sunday afternoon, defeating Vincennes University 12–1 at Cougar Field to complete a dominant series performance.
Vincennes struck first with a solo home run in the opening inning, but Cleveland State's pitching staff quickly settled in and the offense took control as the game progressed. The Cougars broke through in the fourth inning and never looked back, scoring in three consecutive frames and erupting for eight runs in the sixth.
Nolan Sergeant delivered a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, while Riley Mahan added two RBIs and Kwade Carver drove in two more. Hank Adams chipped in an RBI single, and Cleveland State showed its discipline offensively by drawing 11 walks.
On the mound, Evan Cope earned the win, improving to 2–0 on the season after allowing just one run on two hits over five innings, striking out six. JC Armour and Evan Sanders combined for two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to close the game.
Head Coach Aaron Bryant credited his team's ability to respond and stay consistent throughout the game.
"I liked the way we responded after giving up a run early," Bryant said. "Our pitching staff stayed composed, and offensively we continued to take quality at-bats and apply pressure. That's the kind of growth we want to see as we move forward."
With the win, Cleveland State improves to 6–3 on the season.
